14 neighbors want bike garages in Brooklyn.

I want lockers / garages for bikes where I can lock my bike and not have to detach lights / accessories.

Here's an article from the Guardian about addressing bike parking and storage as part of holistic municipal cycling plans: m.guardian.co.uk/environment/b...

I particularly like the look of the 'bike hangar' they mention (www.cyclehoop.com/product/bike...), but imagine there would be a number of import and regulatory hurdles to get past before getting these guys in Brooklyn.

The bike hangar is rad. It doesn't seem too complex in terms of the design.

@Micah - I like the idea of having a group of lockers that's the size of a parking space or two.

Here's an example of indoor storage for rent in Asheville - coablog.ashevillenc.gov/2010/0...

Dan, I actually think that the greatest impact from this would come in the long tail of hyper-local spots in residential neighborhoods. The number one explanation I hear from people who would like to bike more but don't is the difficulty of storing a bike in a small apartment, and in bringing it frequently up and down tight stairways. If one parking spot on a block could be given over to bike lockers, a dozen neighbors would instantly have secure reliable bike parking, and one less excuse not to ride.

There is, as I understand, some regulation already in place in NYC requiring indoor parking garages to provide some space for bike parking, in proportion to their total number of spaces.

Right on Greg ... major transit stops like Jay St. Borough Hall or Atlantic Ave. would be a good start.
