52 neighbors want a floating beer garden in San Francisco.

Tom K.
How cool would it be for SF to have a place where people could sit outside on the water and enjoy a beer? I want SF to create a floating beer garden on a ferry or barge and dock it in a high traffic part of the city near many pedestrians and cyclists.

I so dig this idea. If this materialized, it'd be a perfect "date spot" as well.

Hahaha! Floating beer garden. Perfect weekend spot! Make that, floating resto. ;-) I'd love that even more.

Wouldn't it be great for America's Cup?

Yes! :-) I wish this will become a reality. Really like this thought.

Right on! This might give me a reason to actually go to the Marina.

The yacht club on Crissy field just got the kiosk (between the yacht club and the green volleyball grass area) with Dynamo donuts, so after coffee, what could be next? Beer. The Ferry building or any of the surrounding piers would be amazing. I love this idea!

@Natalie A floating beer garden around the Marina/Chrissy Field would be HUGE. When I'm back in NYC, I'll have to do some research on our competition in the arms race ;-)

@Tom K. I wish I could upload a picture here to illustrate :) Using Google Images will suffice though. Too bad you missed it! I haven't heard about the one in Queens, but always thought Red Hook would also be perfect for one.

If SF steps up, we would win the race hands down!

Channeling the essence of either Amsterdam or Copenhagen's Nyhavn would be amazing - casual and accessible. Near Ferry Building or near Chrissy Field / Marina seems like most logical spots to me for weather & views. A floating beer garden anywhere though that's too expensive or highbrow catering to "Financial District" wouldn't interest me. It has to feel authentic.

Floating beer garden arms race sounds like a plan to me.

Of course...you do realize that it is inevitable that we will win, right? ;-)

@Natalie I'm embarrassed to say I never visited the Frying Pan in NYC when I lived there (briefly). There is another floating beer garden planned in NYC in Queens.

I'd love an arms race between SF and NYC to happen to see who can open the most floating beer gardens.

Love this idea. Reminds me of the Frying Pan in NYC's Chelsea neighborhood. Being on the water and seeing the city from that vantage point is always awesome! I'm in!

I totally agree with you, Natalie. Wish this idea would really "happen".
