262 neighbors want a pop-up outdoor film festival at UN Plaza.

Selected
What’s your favorite movie? Free movies are the ultimate summer kickback. At an outdoor movie theater on a lovely summer night in the center of the city, you feel like you’re already on vacation. A temporary movie screen would be set up at the UN Plaza to play movies at night. The Plaza would be illuminated by lights arranged in a creative and fun manner. Wouldn’t you like to nibble on popcorn, sit back and enjoy the experience of watching a movie at UN Plaza?

PROXY Fall Film Festival: Final Weeks!

For the past three Fridays we have welcomed crowds of film lovers to the PROXY Walk-in Theater for free screenings of recent Sundance and SXSW selections. Our two final screenings—Secret Shorts this Friday, and The Wolfpack on November 13—are not to be missed.

I believe part of this is happening with the current mid/central market plan. The added food truck days are helping revitalize this blighted area. The farmers market days are helping too. Power washing / cleaning up some of the adjacent buildings' exterior might also help - (power washing). The newly renovated 50 UN Plaza building is a wonderful improvement. The homeless population in the plaza seems to had gone down. All in all the blighted mid/central Market area is improving.

I think that would work. Ideally, I'd love to see a soft surface so people could sit on the ground as well.

A great idea. Fun, relatively easy, cheap and creates a huge audience for food. This sounds sustainable.

This is the 3rd post I've come upon about movies in the plaza. As I said in the other 2, in Dolores Park people usually sit on blankets on the grass. Here, we may have to bring our own chairs.

'Love Me Tenderloin' was shown at the SF Public Library, but there wasn't enough space in the auditorium for everyone. I'd love to see a movie night at UN Plaza to screen the film. This could be set up similar to movie nights in North Beach or Dolores Park. It'd be great to treat the neighborhood to a celebration of its community with this film.

That's a great idea! I don't know how they do it in north beach, but I guess in UN Plaza we may have to bring our own chairs - in Dolores Park, we usually sat on blankets on the grass!
