St. Claude Main Street
St. Claude Main Street (SCMS) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that promotes and supports the culturally rich crossroads of the historic communities of St. Roch, Bunny Friend, Bywater, and Faubourg Marigny with specific focus on the development of St. Claude Avenue from Elysian Fields to Poland Avenue.  SCMS is part of the statewide network of Main Street organizations.

The SCMS Pop-Up Retail Program gives local artists, artisans, and culture bearers the opportunity to showcase and sell their goods from a storefront on St. Claude Avenue. This short-term, pop-up concept allows local art-makers to learn the basics of selling products and operating a storefront business; the space can also be used to measure sales, foot traffic, and other metrics, thus testing the market and providing data for our organizational programming as well as individual business planning for art makers who choose to pursue a storefront of their own. The St. Claude Food Truck Park, presented by St. Claude Main Street and My House NOLA, will showcase two of New Orleans’ favorite things – food and music – with the area’s first and only food truck park.

From October 2 – November 8, the St. Claude Food Truck Park will pop-up in a vacant lot at the corner of St. Claude Avenue and Feliciana Street. The park will come to life each Thursday – Saturday night from 6 – 9 p.m., offering neighborhood residents and visitors from across the city an opportunity to come together and dine on a variety of unique cuisines.

There will be at least three food trucks at the park each night, rotating among the area’s most popular “meals on wheels.” Also available for purchase will be domestic and specialty beers that pair with the weekend’s food truck offerings.

Picnic tables will provide seating and places to gather under strings of holiday-style lights. In addition to live local bands, entertainment will be provided by members of SCMS’ two youth programs – New Orleans Youth Sound Experience (NOYSE) and NOLA Mix. The food truck park will also feature portable restroom facilities, bike parking and security.

They already offer most of these resources at NOVAC and Big Class within blocks of this. Why do we need a new organization? Why not just collaborate with existing organization to improve resources available to the community?

St. Claude Main Street is partnering with Parkway Partners and other neighborhood organizations on the “Reforest St. Claude” project. This tree planting effort is part of Parkway Partners’ ReLeaf program and the organization’s commitment to plant another 10,000 trees by 2017. As with all of Parkway Partners’ tree plantings, it adheres to the planting guidelines of its public partner, the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways.

St. Claude Main Street is donating $2500 to the “Reforest St. Claude” project and is canvassing the St. Claude corridor, identifying businesses that may want to buy a tree to go in front of their business. For the first twenty St. Claude businesses to sign-up to become a member of the St. Claude Business Association, St. Claude Main Street will split the cost of the tree package, reducing the total cost to $125.
