Hey everybody! It's November 1st (time flies), and the period for sharing ideas and demonstrating support has now closed. Thank you for sharing your idea with the community.
The National Garden Association will announce the grant recipient at Memfix: Cleveland Street, a community event on Saturday, November 10th. Come out to Crosstown for a day of civic minded fun, and learn how you can support the winning project.
We would use the grant money to purchase supplies (tubing and decorative tapes) to make durable, creative, hand-crafted hula hoops for playgrounds, and to purchase hand made hoops from local independent hoop artisans. With $1000 we could provide at least 100 hoops and activate a hooper army to drop our hoop bombs on playgrounds, bus stops, vacant lots, and public green spaces in low income areas in urban Memphis.
Using our own volunteer time and money we have already made and dropped 12 hoops at the following locations:
4 at East Park
3 at Howse Park in Binghampton
3 at 760 Vance Ave. playground/bus stop
1 at Secret Sculpture Garden - 1095 Forrest Ave.
1 at Macon Homes Apartments on Claybrook

We have numerous other locations we'd absolutely love to drop more hoops at. We just need more money to make the hoops to make it happen!
You can also read more about all the community work we do with hoops on my blog: www.hoopstatic.com/projects/
I'd love to learn more about how you'll cover every playground, park and public green space with "Hoop Bombs." How will you use the NGA grant to realize this vision?
Sorry for the spam guys, but I'm leaving this comment on each idea related to the NGA Grant:
The National Garden Association is reviewing these ideas this week! Only 14 days left until the competition closes. If you want this idea to receive the grant, be sure to share this idea with your friends and neighbors, asking for their support.
