In May 2012, leading UX designers from across the U.S. were presented two big problems facing the New Orleans music community: adapting its unique artistic mix to the digital economy and ensuring aid for the musicians who fall on hard times.
One solution designed by the UX for Good team is to pilot a "Tip the Band" campaign to raise public awareness and build support for a culture of care for musicians in the city.
Potential campaign components:
- Marketing materials in music venues (flyers, posters, coasters) that both encourage people to "Tip the Band" & promote a website with info on the broader issues facing the music community. The website can highlight resources in the community that need support.
- A way music venues can sponsor the campaign, possibly integrating "Tip the Band" into their menus and receipts
- Mobile tipping app for digital tips and to show real-time activity in music venues
