21 neighbors want to recreate an absent element of wilderness in the urban context (urban campfire) in Manhattan.

We want to bring an element of wilderness that is absent from the urban environment, but recreated to fit the urban context. Perhaps an urban campfire—people enter a public plaza to find logs for sitting, and a "campfire" by accessing website/app that displays fire on their screens—allowing visitors to rethink their space and how their mobile devices can impact their environments. Can we create an urban fireside chat?

Or it can explore a different element of the hinterlands: night sky/stargazing, water, soil/land/sand, wildlife... something fun that takes people out of their daily routine for a bit.

How can you help?

URBAN SPACEship

Building off of this idea, we created a collaborative project that we called the Light Dome project - using light and stories to activate a public space and encourage social interactions. The event will take place on Wed., April 3rd at 6:30pm. All the details are here:www.meetup.com/URBANSPACEship/...

URBAN SPACEship

This is a great and creative concept, and especially relevant in such a busy place like NYC. As Vitruvius said about fire: "it was the discovery of fire that originally gave rise to the coming together of men, to the deliberative assembly, and to social intercourse".
This would certainly be interesting to apply in our modern urban context!
