3 for Life is an oversized environment in which a typical adult will physically feel like they're in pre-school again. Based on David and Tom Kelley’s idea of rebuilding creative confidence, we will be creating a space that will help adults (and even kids!) remember their compassion, confident and creative 3 year old self. We will design and build to scale an oversized table, oversized chairs, oversized art easel, oversized drawing pad, oversized crayons, oversized hopscotch, etc, in which a 'grown up' feels as if they’re just a kid - small, vulnerable, in need of help, and the overall consistent feeling of being in awe! This differs from current artists with similar works who create pieces that are off the charts oversized, which I’ve attached as inspiration images, in the sense that we want to specifically elicit the childlike feeling rather than being overwhelmingly tiny.
The theory is that between 0 - 3 years old is when we're our most creative, compassionate, confident fun selves, with the hope being that in embodying the physicality of this aspect, it will psychologically trigger adults into reminding themselves of their to their radical pre-school selves!
Description by the exhibit:
Feel as small and good as your fun-loving creative confident compassionate three year old self again! Climb aboard alone, with friends or heck, make new friends, kiddie style. Hi, I’m ______ , let’s play! ☺
This social experiment will engage and delight tourists, locals and business folks. As modern busy adults, we have some how quieted our playful inner child. This experiment invites the community to take a break from their fast paced lifestyle and enjoy being a kid again (even kids will enjoy this piece as they feel extra extra tiny) – together! Watch how strangers interact and smile as they enjoy their time reliving their youth, letting down their guard to be a bit vulnerable and carefree – enhancing their compassion, creativity and confidence!
Perhaps they will take a piece of this experience back with them as they continue moving along Market Street, back into their own lives. Introspective growth in an entertaining fun way!
