Much of BART's core systems dates from the 1960s. Those systems have started to fail. Some, like our escalators, have failed. We can't keep maintaining 1960s kit, and expect it to function like new. Now is the time to take decisive action to rebuild BART's core systems from the ground up. It's what we know we need, and it's what the Bay Area is demanding.

I love this idea, but it appears BART has a list of project to simply maintain its existing system and be able to handle growth at a cost of $16B.

For sure! I'm just pointing out it's challenging to expand BART's service when it appears they have their hands full and still don't have adequate funding to maintain what they've got. But to your point, I wouldn't be surprised if expanding BART's hours is something they're just not willing to add to their agenda.

One of the reasons people might be against running it later is that it will increase the number of people who use it as their only place to sleep. We can fix that too. If we put our minds to it.

They can close off some areas so - my concern is the gains and loss of keeping it open - later staff - and other financial effects
