The Bench-Go-Round is interactive public seating that encourages connection and play between pedestrians. It promotes a spirit of cooperation and collaboration amongst groups that may not normally interact.
It consists of two opposite facing benches, placed side by side across a central balancing point. The benches freely rotate 360 degrees around the central point in either direction. In short, it's a bench meets merry-go-round.
One can use the bench alone for seating. But when someone sits on the opposite bench, a surprising and delightful physical relationship between the two people is formed.
I fully intend to engage my site's community in a hands on way throughout my process. Early on I will interact with them in person researching their use of the site and interviewing them about their needs and wants. I'll supplement that by soliciting feedback on the initial renderings of the idea. I will iterate and repeat on this process as needed to evolve the final design.
If you like this idea, "me too" it to stay updated on it's progress. Feel free to share your insights in the "How can you help?" section. If you'd like to get involved with this project, let us know. You can fill out a volunteer form to help with the overall festival here
