We combined Victoria Geczi's idea for urban gardening with this one since they overlapped (including Me Too votes). Here's Victoria's comment:

There are a few empty lots in Mesa that are just barren areas. Many cities currently have small lots built to grow vegetables, fruit, and flowers. Neighbors help maintain and grow the small plots. They can rent a plot and buy what they would like to grow and harvest. Other members can help weed, water, and provide other maintenance to the lot. This has a great opportunity to bring our neighborhoods and town together.
