The Tenderloin is one of the most fascinating neighborhoods in San Francisco. The dual challenges of density and diversity necessitate creativity, compassion, and collaboration, all values that I witness in spades throughout the vibrant blocks of the TL.

I'm currently working on the Tenderloin ExerTrail, an accessible, scalable, outdoor urban exercise path along Market Street. A painted sidewalk route will lead participants from one activity station to another, encouraging physical fitness and social connection while offering an artful sense of place.

This project was recently selected for the Market Street Prototyping Festival, slated for April 2015. I'm looking forward to working with our design captain from Studio for Urban Design, along with the Tenderloin community, to design and fabricate this project for installation next spring.

Loved this project. Simple, context-sensitive, interactive for all ages, and - hot pink! #winning

This Tenderloin resident came back every morning of the Festival - simple, functional bodyweight exercises.

That is a great story to tell. Nice work!

Admittedly, I get a little self-conscious doing squats on Market Street. I'd be more likely to use it if it was somewhere like UN Plaza or the charming new park/rec area in the TL with the basketball courts. Regardless I love the spirit of getting exercise into the conversation about public space.

We'd love to see simple bodyweight workout stations everywhere! And beautiful painted trails leading from one to the next. And a block-long hopscotch ladder! :)
