Upon devouring Robert Putnam's Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of Community in America, I clung swiftly and steadfast onto the goal of reviving our contemporary sensibilities surrounding "community."

A friend of mine nearly one year ago instigated me to attend an event held by MiLES, just a few short blocks away from my old apartment in the Alphabet City. I sat enrapt in the discourse that followed, wherein several community members waxed modestly and excitedly about opportunities for growth, change, and challenge in the Lower East Side.

Now in Washington Heights, there is a lot of room for growth, for community engagement, and to begin the conversation.
