What a great idea! Everyone is focused on the humans -- also a wonderful idea -- but yours stands out by highlighting the other living species, who we frequently ignore in our urban environment. Love it!

Thanks Yasi! I think so, too.

Sadly -- 3 years later -- we're not seeing much of a change in the neighborhood. Yes, the 6th St substation is open (limited hours) but I don't see the officers engaged in the community nor are changes happening.
I've worked here for 8+ years; on Mission at 6th.

Thanks for the honest perspective Yasi ... I pass through the neighborhood occasionally during the day and it feels like there are more officers and community ambassadors on the street, and that there is more vibrant street life in the neighborhood (ex. today's farmers market), but that's just my perspective. I haven't seen any data about crime rates before/after the substation opened.

You're right, Dan, there are more Community Ambassadors and I do like the mobile toilets at 6th near Jessie Alley -- this is a major problem in the area. But the comment I was making had to do with community policing, which I still don't see a lot of. I frequently wonder if the SFPD & SFFD think the TL and SOMA stations are "lame" assignments. It takes a certain type of person to work with the the indigent, mentally ill & homeless -- without feeling resentful, judgmental and "put out." But maybe I'm the one being judge-y. PS: I read a great article on the Community Ambassadors -- I think either in the Central City Extra or maybe Hoodline.

Fair enough Yasi - have you reached out to Supervisor Kim's office? Are there any opportunities to meet with the SFPD informally? I enjoyed that Hoodline piece as well (hoodline.com/2016/05/a-walk-th...)
