About this event
Since taking office, President Obama has focused on expanding access to opportunity for all Americans and leveraging 21st century technology and innovation to solve our greatest challenges. This event focuses on new ways that the public and private sectors can spur new innovations and empower communities with open data.
Over the past few months, the White House, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Census Bureau, Presidential Innovation Fellows, and local governments made a curated list of open data sets available. Software developers and non-profits used the data to create digital tools that help families, community leaders, non-profits, local officials, and the media navigate information about neighborhood-level opportunities, like access to jobs, transit, and good schools. At this event, Administration officials and other participants will discuss their visions for leveraging technology and data to further expand access to opportunity and fair housing, and will demo ways in which the open data sets can benefit members of the public.
