Techshop in SF is worth a look:
"TechShop is a playground for creativity. Part fabrication and prototyping studio, part hackerspace and part learning center, TechShop provides access to over $1 million worth of professional equipment and software. We offer comprehensive instruction and expert staff to ensure you have a safe, meaningful and rewarding experience. Most importantly, at TechShop you can explore the world of making in a collaborative and creative environment."
The St. Claude Lab is currently raising funds for their project on Kickstarter. The project will provide:
- Free afterschool/in-school workshops and access to digital resources and local expertise for elementary through high school students.
- Free daytime classes for adults in computer literacy and workforce training.
- Evening mid-career continuing education classes to help build digital media skills in graphic design, filmmaking and photography, and to help artists and entrepreneurs establish a portfolio and web presence.
We're opening a center for design and digital media education in New Orleans and we need your help!
I'm not sure if these people mean a youth home or just a center - if the latter, Stallings Community Center on St Claude should be finished being renovated next year. It is operated by NORD and will run arts and sports programs for kids and adults.
The Stallings Center, a NORD community center open to boys, girls, and adults, is being renovated and should be finished next year. This center is on St Claude in Bywater.
Only 3-4 people who want this live in bywater area. I'd like a movie house too, but not at the Wiltz Gym, which is part of a residential block. This property should be converted to multifamily residential, that is the best use here.
